Des Moines Directory Landscape

Des Moines people directories are not held in one master database. Staff rosters identify a person’s work role. School and college listings connect names with campuses. County property and recorder indexes connect people with parcels or legal documents, while state filing and license systems connect them with firms and occupations. Archives, museums, and newspapers extend the trail into earlier generations.

Choose the source by the relationship you can prove. A department points toward a staff roster. A school name points toward a campus directory or yearbook. A street address belongs in the parcel tools. A company name may lead to a UBI number and state filing. For someone who lived here decades ago, a yearbook, obituary index, newspaper, city directory, or archival register is more useful than a current roster.

Des Moines Government Directory Routes

The Des Moines City Staff Directory is a department-grouped roster, not a person-search database. Rows show a linked employee name, title, implied department, and public work email. The broad site search may help with a surname or title, but there are no dedicated first-name, last-name, or department filters. A missing result only means there is no public direct listing.

Broaden the directory search with the King County Employee Directory for county employees, groups, and services, or the Washington Government Employee Directory for state staff. The state tool accepts last name, first name, and agency. These listings identify public roles and work contacts. They do not publish home contact details.

If a staff member is absent, call the department’s main number, then ask the City Clerk which office owns the record. A narrow request can name the department, role, date range, and record type. The broader request process and disclosure limits belong with Des Moines public records access.

Des Moines School Directory Searches

Highline Public Schools maintains current staff directories for Des Moines Elementary, Pacific Middle, North Hill Elementary, and Maritime High. The shared interface searches by keyword, first name, or last name. All fields are optional. Larger school lists paginate in groups of 12, so checking later pages matters when a broad search is used.

Results normally show a staff member’s name, role, and public district email. These are current school staff directories, not alumni listings or complete educator-license histories.

Pacific Middle showed 89 entries across eight pages during research, while North Hill showed 70 across six. Those totals can change as staff rosters change.

Highline College People Directory

The Highline College Directory covers current faculty and staff at the Des Moines campus. Searchers may browse by surname initial or enter first and last names with “starts with” or “contains” matching. A record may include a profile image, name, title, department or program, office, mailstop, phone, and college email.

One inspected sample lists Keliko Adams as Manager of the Teaching Innovation Development Lab in the Learning and Teaching Center, with office 9-118, mailstop 9-1, phone 206-592-3630, and a college email. That sample shows the directory’s depth without implying that every entry has every field. It is not an alumni directory.

Des Moines Property Owner Directories

King County property tools act as address-first directories. The eReal Property search accepts an address, ten-digit parcel number, or condominium name. The main search does not offer a verified owner-name field. Open the parcel report to see the documented current owner, abbreviated legal description, values, sales history, structure details, and related parcel data.

The Parcel Viewer adds address, parcel, intersection, and map-click routes. For recorded deeds, Landmark works in the opposite direction by searching grantors and grantees by name. Its index starts in 1976, with most online images from August 1, 1991. Earlier grantor-grantee indexes must be read on microfilm at King County Archives.

Note: Parcel numbers were not indexed consistently in recorded documents until about 2002, so names and legal descriptions remain key fallbacks.

Des Moines Business Name Directories

Washington’s Corporations and Charities Filing System connects firms with registered agents, governors, principal-office details, status, and filing history. Ordinary search accepts a business name or UBI. Advanced search adds business type, status, dates, and registered-agent or governor name. Public filing documents can be viewed without a login. Entities inactive more than ten years move out of CCFS and into Digital Archives.

The form works best after checking a name variant or obtaining a UBI from the Department of Revenue business lookup. A state entity filing does not prove that the firm holds a Des Moines city license. The city publishes licensing instructions, but no public licensee-name register was verified.

Des Moines Professional Directories

Occupation-specific directories test a claimed public credential. The Washington Department of Licensing searches many licenses by name, license number, type, or location. The Department of Health Provider Credential Search covers health professionals and facilities, while Labor & Industries offers name and contractor or tradesperson-license routes. The WSBA Legal Directory adds name, city, county, practice area, license status, and similar-sounding name controls.

The resulting credential type, number, and status establish a state license record, not every local activity. Historical health professionals may instead appear in King County Archives’ license index for physicians, optometrists, chiropodists, and midwives from 1890 through 1980.

Washington Custody Name Directory

The Washington Department of Corrections Incarcerated Search is a focused statewide directory for selected current custody information. It accepts a DOC number, first name, and last name. A DOC number is the most exact key. Name searches can return more than one person, so compare the result carefully.

The official search screen makes those three fields and the result-table format clear.

King County’s separate Subject Lookup covers current county jail bookings. The two directories answer different questions because county detention and state incarceration are different systems. Both can change as a person’s status changes.

Historical Des Moines Directory Eras

Printed directories for the Des Moines area are regional holdings, not a proven continuous city-only run. Puget Sound Regional Archives lists Polk directories for 1914-15, 1919-20, 1922, 1925, 1931, 1938-40, and 1948-83. Confirm that a volume’s geographic coverage includes the person’s community before drawing a conclusion. No authoritative exact run of Des Moines printed city, reverse, or telephone directories was verified in the reviewed KCLS pages.

The WPA-origin property-card set contains 82,420 records, often with building facts and a parcel photograph. Archives cannot retrieve these cards by street address alone. Convert the address to a parcel number or legal description first. For phone books and city directories, check the State Library catalog and ask KCLS, Seattle Public Library special collections, or archive staff about the specific year and place.

Des Moines Family History Directories

The Pieces of the Past project joins Des Moines Historical Society collections with a search across photographs, recorded stories, buildings, businesses, schools, vessels, streets, people, and families. The society’s newspaper run begins in 1946. The Highline Heritage Museum collection directory adds an obituary index, personal collections, oral histories, newspaper clippings, Highline Times holdings, and a Highline School District yearbook inventory.

Its photo finding aids split named families into A-J and K-Z, then keep a separate “Names unknown” group. An unidentified portrait can still be compared with a yearbook, obituary, or family photograph. Search old records under Des Moines as well as Zenith, Redondo, Woodmont, Midway, and North Hill, since those names recur in local schools, news, postmarks, and photographs.

The Washington State Digital Archives provides a wider collection-and-name search.

The archive can bridge local sources with statewide material, including inactive business entities and digitized city minutes. The Des Moines Council collection contains 1,600 minutes dated from June 17, 1959 through August 2, 2007, indexed by date rather than person.

Des Moines Directory Access Points

The Des Moines Library offers computers, scanning, copying, fax, Wi-Fi, interpreter access, and catalog help at 21620 11th Avenue S. Its dedicated physical genealogy collections are at Auburn and Bellevue, not the Des Moines branch. KCLS also identifies “The Kent Advertiser-Journal and the Des Moines Intercitian,” from February through December 1918 on microfilm at Kent.

State Library access changed on July 1, 2025. Ordinary public access at Tumwater closed after funding loss, with limited Thursday afternoon appointments remaining. That makes KCLS, PSRA, local museums, their catalogs, and advance staff contact more important. No complete public residential, alumni, chamber-member, union, congregation, or local funeral-home directory was verified.
